| Cal team tops xACT challenge
A team of U.C. Berkeley students has won this year's PricewaterhouseCoopers' xACT Challenge, an extreme accounting competition among 354 teams from 43 top schools held at the firm's headquarters in New York. Five finalist teams were each awarded $10,000. The xACT Challenge is an annual case competition designed to give undergraduates exposure to real world accounting and auditing issues. It is designed to test the critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills of hundreds of the best accounting students from top schools around the country. As one of the five finalist teams, Cailin Trinh, Christina Ting, Davis Liu, Milan Agarwal and Stephanie Chien were required to present their case solutions, which focused on how to improve the corporate financial reporting model, to a panel of PwC national and New York leaders, who hosted and judged the competition.
Oscar Winner Tilda Swinton Addresses Offbeat Love Life
And I'm giving this to him because there's no way I would be in America at all," Swinton said, comparing the Oscar statuette to her agent, Brian Swardstrom. "I'm giving this to you." Swinton, who played the White Witch in 2005's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" and appeared in "Orlando" and "The Deep End," also took a good-natured swipe at her "Michael Clayton" co-star. "George Clooney, you know, the seriousness and the dedication to your art, seeing you climb into that rubber bat suit from 'Batman and Robin,' the one with the nipples, every morning under your costume ... on the set, off the set, hanging upside down during lunch. You rock man." Backstage, Swinton said she was "so stoked, as they say, I think it's fantastic.

Here's an analysis from Christianity Today's Elesha Coffman who writes: The survey's topline summary describes this scene as "both very diverse and extremely fluid," which is an apt assessment as long as one remembers that the subject examined is a landscape and not, say, a moving crowd in an airport. For all of the often quite illuminating attention they get, non-Christian religions still constitute only about 5 percent of the American population. All religious groups are gaining and losing members in a very competitive environment, but the overall percentages remain fairly stable year to year and even decade to decade.

Creating rich Internet applications on Linux with WebKit
Development on the GTK WebKit port is progressing at a very impressive pace. We have previously looked at several noteworthy experiments related to the port, including a GStreamer-based HTML5 video element implementation, and WebKit backend support for web browsers on Maemo, Epiphany, and OLPC. These tests demonstrate the increasing efficacy of the GTK WebKit port in the context of a conventional browser, but there are also many other fascinating experiments that reveal additional contexts in which the GTK WebKit port has value. GTK WebKit developer Alp Toker published slides last week from his presentation at the Free and Open Source Software Developers' European Meeting (FOSDEM). The presentation discusses prospects for developing hybrid desktop/web applications with WebKit and GTK.
